I used to be a fan and supporter of Gov. Brewer, but now I see she has stabbed "We The People" in the back then rubbed salt in the wound. This is unforgivable, and while I will give credit where credit is due, she betrayed Arizona.

Gov. Jan Brewer sent five bills to the scrap heap Thursday in a pointed gesture intended to prod lawmakers into a deal on the budget and her plan to expand Medicaid. (The governor refuses to sign bills into law until she gets her way with expanding Medicaid. After a couple of years of Federal funding that would allow her to balance the books, it is the state tax payer who is on the hook for untold billions of dollars. To me this is something we must do something about.)

The five vetoes, follow-through on Brewer’s promise to block legislation until her top priorities move forward, capped a tense day that saw some lawmakers receive threats over their support for the plan to provide health care for more of the state’s poor.

In letters explaining her actions, Brewer revealed a growing impatience with the Legislature, which she noted has been in session for 130 days and has only five weeks until the constitutional deadline for a fiscal 2014 budget.

“I warned that I would not sign additional measures into law until we see resolution of the two most pressing issues facing us: adoption of a fiscal 2014 state budget and plan for Medicaid,” Brewer wrote. “It is disappointing I must demonstrate the moratorium was not an idle threat.”

Fed up with weeks of debate and delay on her top legislative priority, Gov. Jan Brewer called lawmakers into an unprecedented special session late Tuesday, bypassing the leadership of her own party to push through Medicaid expansion and the 2014 budget.

The governors surprise move comes after House Speaker Andy Tobin - Paulden, AZ adjourned until Thursday, stalling efforts by a bipartisan House coalition to pass Brewer's 2014 budget and Medicaid expansion.

State law gives Brewer the authority to call a special session whenever she chooses. The only requirement is that she specify the topics of the session and not deviate from them, said election attorney Tom Ryan.

At least eight to 10 House Republicans are expected to join the chamber's 24 Democrats in support of expansion, a coalition that has been loosely organized for months.

1) “Multiple triggers”/Legalization is immediate. DHS just has to write border “plan.” The most any “triggers” can possibly do is delay green cards and citizenship.

2) “90 % effectiveness”/ If not reached, triggers only toothless commission. … Also: “90% effectiveness”–as defined by DHS–is really more like 50%.

3) “Pay back taxes”/ Only if already “assessed” by IRS (unlikely). Newly legalized may instead get refunds.

4) “Learn English”/ Only need to sign up for English class.

5) “Clean record”/ Allows two free misdemeanors. Additional misdemeanors (including assaults) can be waived by DHS.

6) No “public charge.” Must earn 125% of poverty line / They’re going to deport people who earn only 124% or less? Ha.

7) “Pay a fine”/ Can be waived by DHS

8) “Back of the line”/ Get to wait out the line while living in the U.S. (unlike suckers trying to come here legally).

9) Border fence/ Leaves it up to DHS, which decided not to complete fence in first place

10) “Comprehensive Southern Border Security Strategy”/ Only has to be “substantially” operational–whatever that means, as defined by DHS–before green cards are issued. (Legalization has already happened, remember!)

11) “E-verify” employment checks/ Replaces E-Verify with new system. Requires only that this system be “implemented” ( 30%? 70%? Who knows?). Subject to lawsuit. If still in court after 10 years, never mind!

12) Entry-exit system for visas/Has been required since 1996. DHS must only be “using” a system before green cards can be issued. (Using in 10% of airports? 50%? Again, who knows?)
